This emphasis on humanities complements other Five College African Studies initiatives which include a conference on the literature of childhood in Africa at Smith College mid October, this year&#8217;s <a href="https://cms.amherst.edu/academiclife/dean_faculty/copeland/fellows">Amherst College Copeland Fellowship</a> theme of <a href="https://cms.amherst.edu/academiclife/dean_faculty/copeland/2007-08_proposal">Art and Identity in the Global Community</a> and a <a href="http://www.fivecolleges.edu/news/news_african_study2.html">UISFL-funded</a> <a href="http://www.fivecolleges.edu/sites/african/coursedevelopment/">curricular development project focusing on performing culture</a> in the Spring.</p>
<p>The scholars will be <a href="http://www.fivecolleges.edu/sites/asp/news/detail.php?contentID=1903">introducing their work to faculty on Friday September 14, 2007</a> at the Five College African Studies Faculty Council meeting in the Mullins/Farber room, Valentine Hall, Amherst College from 1:30 to 3pm. For more information on the scholars you can read their <a href="http://www.fivecolleges.edu/sites/asp/news/detail.php?contentID=1904">bios</a> on the <a href="http://www.fivecolleges.edu/sites/asp/">ASP web site</a>.</p>
