Add-Drop Walkthrough

So as the new semester rolls around, as does add-drop period. If you don’t know what this is, it is the time during the first couple of weeks in which you are free to add or drop a class without having to go through the Registrar’s office: it can all be done through Spire!

Now, normally, this is not a problem, but sometimes you will run into a situation where you want to drop one class and add another that is at the same time. You could drop the first class, then add the other, but what if you are unable to add the other class and the class you drop fills up by the time you realize this? This could end up in you either having to go through the Registrar to get an override back into the class, or you just not being able to take the class at all!

Luckily, there is another way to do it: the Swap feature in Spire.

First, what you want to do is find the class that you want to add by finding it in the Class Search feature.

select class

Select the class, and you will be brought to a page similar to this:

hit next

Click the “Next” button, and you will be brought to the next page, confirming that the class is in your Enrollment Shopping Cart:

added to cart

Now, you want to click on the Swap button up at the top of the page:

select swap

Once there, select the class from your schedule that you wish to drop, and the class from your cart that you wish to add:

enter info

Click the “select” button, and you will be brought to the confirmation page:

confirm swap

Make sure everything is correct, and then click the “Finish Swapping” button.

successful

If everything is good, and there are no restrictions on the class, then you should get this message and your classes should be swapped!

Good luck in the new semester!
